Flashback: Cheryl squatting 275 lbs. @ 105.4 - USAPL Hudson Natural Open 2005
College, and lifting, and internships, oh my (11/05) Read all about what happened at the Hudson Natural Open at Weight Trainers United (a couple of images in that discussion thread, too)! I think I did pretty well in the 105 lb. class, having won 1st in the Women's Open division overall and breaking 3 of the 4 state records... except that I learned the lesson never to pull a deadlift without having the platform manager check the weight on the bar first. I am most happy about finally improving my weakest lift, the squat, with a big PR of 275 lbs.! My GPA at Northwestern is STILL a 4.0 !!! And I've got exactly one more year left to go before officially graduating with my Bachelor's degree. The internship with the City of Edina is going incredibly well and I'm having a lot of fun there doing work and learning things I've never done before. To God be the glory for every good thing happening in my life right now. I would not be able to do any of this without Him, and He's doing everything to keep me sane and strong as I balance this crazy schedule! Training and internship update (10/05) I am currently training for the Hudson Natural Open on Saturday, November 5th - my very first competition in the 105 lb. Women's Open class! Training has been going very well, and I'm pretty excited about what new numbers I can hit, being in a 3-digit weight class for the first time :) More updates to come, of course. I have also been offered and accepted the Communications Internship with the City of Edina, Minnesota... an experience I have always wanted and that had a very competitive selection process (this was my second time applying). This is directly related to my studies in college and a perfect match to go along with my soon-to-be-completed degree. I expect the next several months to be awesome! What's new... besides lifting! (9/05) I am still going strong at Northwestern College finishing up my Bachelor's in Communication Studies, currently at a 4.0 GPA. I've also started applying for internships in my major/field and might be seeing some very interesting opportunities unfold in the months to come!! IPF Women's Worlds medals...my first time in the IPF, my first time outside of the country!! (6/05) I won a Silver medal in the bench press and a Bronze medal overall in the 44 kg. / 97 lb. weight class at the 2005 IPF Women's World Powerifting Championships held in Ylitornio, Finland! I have lots more to write, but since I'm still catching up on a lot of things, please check out this brief report about my performance at Women's World's that I recently posted at Weight Trainers United and some of my images from the big show in Ylitornio, Finland this past May 26th-29th.
USAPL Women's National Champion!...my first time there??!! (2/05) Who would have guessed??! Not me, although I knew deep down that if I agreed that "with Christ, all things are possible," then I could win 1st place in my first time competing at the USAPL Women's National Powerlifting Championships in St. Louis, Missouri on Feb. 5th. I found out that it was meant to be for me after all! I managed to survive weight-cutting once again and ended up at 95.7 lbs. at 6 a.m. - two hours before squatting 237 lbs., benching 160 lbs., and deadlifting 297 lbs. adding up to a total of 694 lbs. by the time noontime rolled around. This was accomplished with 8 of my 9 attempts getting 3 white lights each! With incredible competition surrounding me in this, the Women's 97 lb. Open class, I won 1st place by 5.5 lbs. I was told by my coach at the meet, Jim Hart, that I had 5 lbs. to spare on my squat and 10 lbs. on my deadlift. (in kilos, that meant 5.5 lbs. and 11 lbs. respectively). I also came close to adding 5.5 lbs. to my bench and would have nailed it if I had worn my tighter Titan F6 shirt. This meant my potential total on that day could have been a 716 lb. total, but our strategy was to be successful with as many attempts as I possibly could (be somewhat conservative). Man... I had no idea that was going to be conservative :) Now I have been invited to lift for the Women's Open USA Team at the IPF Women's World Powerlifting Championships in Ylitornio, Finland the last week of May!! I will be uploading a new report and images to my POWERLIFTING PAGES very, very soon (I am working on a mini-website about this)...check back! NEW All-Time Historical TOP 100 WORLD RANKINGS!! (11/04) After lifting in the WABDL World Bench Press and Deadlift Championships on Nov. 14th, my lifts have now moved up in the All-Time Historical Women's Powerlifting TOP 100 WORLD RANKINGS for the 97 lb. / 44 kg. weight class! As mentioned below, this is a list of the all-time biggest squats, bench presses, deadlifts, and totals (of all 3 lifts) in the world performed by 97 lb. female powerlifters from all lifting organizations and federations. The rankings are compiled and constantly updated by Michael Soong, Powerlifting Statistician. My new best bench press of 160.9 ranks #43, while my new best deadlift of 303.1 ranks #53! 2004 TwinLab-WABDL World BP and DL Championships in Reno (11/04) I competed at my first WABDL World Bench Press and Deadlift Championships in Reno on Sunday, November 14th and ended this year in powerlifting as a World Champion in both events in the Women's 97 lb. Open class. I benched 160.9 lbs. for a Minnesota State Bench Press Record and deadlifted 303.1 lbs. for a National and Minnesota State Deadlift Record! These were both personal records, too... I had wanted to break the 150 lb. barrier in the BP and the 300 lb. barrier in the DL before the year was done!!! I've uploaded a few images. Faith = Power All-Time
Historical Women's Powerlifting TOP 100 WORLD RANKINGS
(9/04)
I currently place among the All-Time Historical Women's Powerlifting TOP 100 WORLD RANKINGS for the 97 lb. / 44 kg. weight class! This is a list of the all-time biggest squats, bench presses, deadlifts, and totals (of all 3 lifts) in the world performed by 97 lb. female powerlifters from all lifting organizations and federations. The rankings are compiled and constantly updated by Michael Soong, Powerlifting Statistician. My best bench press of 148.8 ranks #86, while my best deadlift of 292.1 ranks #83. New set of USAPL Women's Open State Records in Minnesota (8/04) The
whole set of Women's 97 lb. Open powerlifting records has finally
been re-set! Although my last full meet, the Iowa State and Hawkeye
Open Championships (Sioux City, Iowa) brought me no personal records,
it did allow me to match my best full meet lifts in this weight class.
Consequently, USAPL state records which had stood for as long as 14
and 15 years (aside from my old bench record which was 4 years old)
were smashed -- the old total broken by 125 lbs.!
I
went 7/9 and hit an official Elite total in this organization. I also
won Best Female Lifter out of 12 terrific lady lifters. Check
out the details at The Powerlifting Pages! Powerlifting USA's Top 20 Women's Rankings - 2003 (7/04)

NO B.S. ABOUT IT... "BS II" was an awesome time (9/2/03)
THE VISION IS HERE... my newest website on the 'Net (8/4/03) I have just uploaded Olympic Powerlifting Vision .com - the official website of the 2003 AAU Invitational Powerlifting Championships - using Macromedia Fireworks MX, which I taught myself how to use. Check it out! My First National Deadlift Record and New State BP and DL Records (7/27/03) Had an awesome time yesterday at the WABDL TwinLab Midwest Regional Bench Press and Deadlift Championships right here in St. Louis Park (Minneapolis West)! In the 97 lb. Women's Open, I benched 148.7 lbs. for a new Minnesota State Record (and official PR by over 18 lbs.) and deadlifted 253.5 lbs. for a new National and State Record (and official PR, again, by over 18 lbs.). I won two 3-ft.-tall trophies for Outstanding Female Bencher and Deadlifter (check the latest on this and more on my powerlifting page). Web Work Galore for Powerlifting (7/20/03) I have been selected to be the website designer, developer, and webmaster for the upcoming OlympicPowerliftingVision.com website (I came up with the domain name). This will be the official website for the first AAU American Invitational Powerlifting Championships, which will be held inside the United States Olympic Training Center this November. It's a history-making event in our sport! I have also been hired to be the webmaster and new designer and developer for the Crain's Muscle World website. And I continue to work as webmaster and developer for Rickey Dale Crain's personal website and Steve Denison's USPF California site. Training and Meets Continue (7/20/03) Coming up, fast-n-furious, this Saturday the 26th... the WABDL-TwinLab Midwest Regional Bench Press and Deadlift Championships right here in St. Louis Park, Minnesota! I will be competing in both events. The training for this contest has resulted in some great gains in strength (check the latest on this and more on my powerlifting page). APA Midwest Open Results (3/10/03) Just
competed at the APA Midwest Open in Blue Springs, Missouri and won the
Best Female Powerlifter award with a 200 lb. squat, 130 lb. bench press,
and 235 lb. deadlift PR's every week in preparation for the APA Midwest Open (updated 2/28/03) My training for my first competitive (no token lifts) full powerlifting meet has continued to prove surprisingly successful. My PR's (personal records) in the gym are now: 200 lbs. for the squat... 135 lbs. paused max on the bench... and 230 lbs. deadlifted sumo-style. I'll be lifting for the Crain's Muscle World Team at the APA Midwest Open in Blue Springs, Missouri on March 8th. I owe much gratitude to Rickey Dale Crain, Brandon Cass, and many other lifters for their support and help with my transition from emphasizing benching to full powerlifting. Updates made to the Curt Hennig pages (2/03) It's been a very sad week because of Curt's unexpected death. Curt Hennig was the wrestler I loved most during the years that I watched professional wrestling. I've added thoughts, news, and links to Curt Hennig's section of The Wrestling Pages. Back to School (1/03) I'm officially a full time college student again! When I'm not being my kid's mom, I am managing a 13-credit course load from Anoka Ramsey Community College. I'll be transferring these to Metropolitan State University in the Fall. The entire load is online and independent distance learning, and I love it! So far, my favorite class is Principles of Management.Going to the max and surprising myself (12/02) I've healed from several injuries and been enjoying training at the gym more than I have in the last two years. I'm making the transition from training for bench meets to training for full powerlifting - yes, all three lifts. With help from some great lifters, I have found my current max in the squat and deadlift. I have only squatted in training 3 previous times this year, and my max is 155. And I have only begun to try wide sumo deadlifting and trained 4 previous times with it this year, and my max is 190! World Champion powerlifter and my friend, Rickey Dale Crain, has set reasonable goals for me at 200 for the squat and 220 for the deadlift. I hope to total 600 by the end of 2003. (Addition as of Dec. 1st: I met my goal of tripling 130 on the bench!! I did this for almost three full sets today...just missed one rep!)
