Other Animal Stories

I have yet to add some of the great memories I have of Joe and being able to talk to him. They will include the time he helped me diet back down to the Women's 97 lb. Open Division in powerlifting, introduced my little boy Glen to chocolate milk, and the times he helped me train at the gym...

Here's one story for the time being, as told to me by my husband Neal. As he was signing autographs on photos (which he seemed always equipped to do and enjoyed), he signed the one for me, below. My husband Neal told him about my best friend, Rebecca, who grew up watching wrestling with me and who would love one of his photos.

"Alright, what's her name?" Joe asked.

"Becca." As Joe started writing, Neal began spelling it out. "That's B-E-..."

"Neal. I've signed a million of these, I'd know how to spell Becca."

And then he handed the finished product to Neal.

It began, "To Bekah..."

When Rebecca got the autograph and we mused over the incident, we decided that if that's the way Animal says her name is spelled, then that's the only way to spell it. To this day, it is BEKAH. No bones about it.

In 1996, Joe signed this 4x6 image for
me as LOD Animal and gave it to Neal,
along with another autograph he signed
for my best friend Rebecca Robertson.
(He signed hers "To Bekah", and to this
day, we spell her name that way.)
