Other Perfect Stories

Guess who showed up to award me my very first trophy at my first bench meet in 1996? There were suppossed to be 3 or 4 celebrity wrestlers on hand at the 4th Street Saloon Spring Bench Meet 1996, but Curt was the only one who came through. I had won 3rd place out of 5 women, and he didn't allow me to walk away without offering to get me a bigger trophy from the back room. His aim was always to get me to laugh back then.

Years later, when I returned to powerlifting in 2000, I saw him again. He's been a "perfect" example of how you should do cardio and stretch with every workout. There were times when he didn't really want to talk, times when he just about killed me with his comedic acts, and times when he turned my life around - most notably, when I told him that I had sustained a severe back injury that was not healing, no matter what I did (or avoided doing). After cracking some usual jokes (including laying on my back and exercising my thumb with a remote), he told me to go to a chiropractor. Almost a year later, and having seen two different clinics, the pain is gone, and I am back lifting.

Perfect? Absolutely.

Lots more great memories of seeing Curt Hennig coming to this page soon... including:

- "I Talked To Him and He Wasn't In The Mood."

- "I Left Him Alone and He Lost His Grip and Knocked Over The Chalk" (and the variation "I Left Him Alone and He Tripped Over the Rubber Mats.")

- "I Answered The Phone and It Was Curt."

and

- "You Really Ought To Eat Your Vegetables, Curt."

Curt Hennig presented me with my first trophy at my
first bench press meet in April 1996 in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. I won 3rd place out of 5 women.
I hadn't expected to win anything that day,
let alone from my favorite wrestler of all time!
"Well this is a nice trophy," he said, thinking I was
disappointed to not win 1st place. "I can get you a
a bigger one from the back if you want!" he added
quickly after a moment of silence and laughed.
From that day forward, I developed a love for bench
press competition and the sport of powerlifting.
