WABDL Midwest Regionals 2007
A few of my pictures from the meet
Minneapolis (St. Louis Park), MN
Saturday, May 26th

Cheryl Anderson returned to the 97 lb. Women's Open class for the 2007 WABDL Midwest Regional Bench Press and Deadlift Championships and won Best Women's Deadlifter with a 314 lb. pull (just missing what would have been a new World Record 332 lb. pull a few inches from lockout).

An annual Memorial Day Weekend competition held in St. Louis Park (west of Minneapolis), Minn., this exciting event also brought WABDL World Champ and Record Holder Tom Eiseman from New Jersey to pull 772 lbs. at 198 and win Best Lightweight Master Deadlifter. Mitch Edelstein won Best Heavyweight Open and Master Deadlifter and broke two MN state records with 662 lbs. at 220.

Cheryl's opener deadlift: 287 lbs.

Some of the lifters from North Dakota and Minnesota (along with Tom Eiseman in the middle)
Left to right: Unidentified lifter, Tony Scheldrup, Cheryl Anderson, Tom Eiseman, Joe Icenhour, Jesse Canton, Mitch Edelstein
(If you know the lifter on the far left, please e-mail me his name. Thanks!)

Best Deadlifters with their awards (massive swords from Pakistan) and WABDL Prez, Gus Rethwisch:
Tom Eiseman, 772 at 198...Mitch Edelstein, 662 at 220...Cheryl Anderson, 314 at 97

The swords? - They are sharp, they've got arabic writing, and they are huge.
And Gus completely footed the bill to have them shipped home for each of the lifters who had to fly.

With his winning smile, Tom Eiseman gets one of his swords from Gus Rethwisch, meet director

Mitch did NOT expect to win a Best Lifter title - which he said he has never won before!
Here, he happily accepts one of his FOUR award swords from Gus Rethwisch.
(He's got a total of six of these killer things in his car trunk - two of them are Cheryl's)

Cheryl and Glen, her nine-year-old son who spent his whole life being a huge support
and watching his mom win awards...but absolutely nothing that looked like this one!
(He aspires to enter a deadlift meet someday soon, himself. He already has great form!)
